Hanai Pilot Project

Establish proposes to implement the Hānai Pilot Project.  The purpose of the project is to increase the stability of victims of crime and improve their reintegration into society in the state of Hawaii.  Project activities include the provision of trauma informed, evidenced-based services based on two focused tracks. The first focus track, Training, equips foster parents to address the trauma reactions experienced by victims of violent crime, with a focus on human trafficking.  The second track, Support, is directed toward the critical need for appropriate long-term support for victims. This pilot project seeks to connect victims with committed supporters who will guide them towards higher education, job skill development, and engaging in prosocial relationships and activities. 
 

Expected outcomes include increasing the number of foster families equipped to house victims; identify and train committed supporters to guide victims towards stabilization and healing; decrease behavior dysregulation often seen amongst victims of crime; and match committed supporters with victims in long-term support connections. The intended beneficiaries and service area for this pilot project are victims of crime, human trafficking survivors, foster resource caregivers, and hānai supporters across the State of Hawaii.
