Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $600,000)
The Housing Authority of the City of Oakland (Authority) and MISSSEY, a local survivor-led non-profit, in partnership with additional community-based organizations, will work to address barriers to equitable access to housing and supportive services for transition-aged and former foster youth who are survivors of sex and labor trafficking in Alameda County, California. Supportive services will be paired with low-barrier, short-term housing for up to 24 months. The Authority will support up to 50 survivors of human trafficking in finding long-term, stable housing and mental, emotional, and physical healing; train partners on best practices in supporting survivors with a trauma-informed, healing-centered, culturally-relevant practice; host focus groups with survivors to learn about barriers to housing and services; co-develop policies and practices for serving survivors effectively and with a focus on human-centered care; and develop a Program Model to share lessons learned with other Public Housing Authorities that want to partner with their communities to support survivors of human trafficking.
