Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $500,000)

With funding through the OVC 2024 Preventing Trafficking of Girls program, Girl Power Rocks, Inc. proposes a project titled, “Girls Intervention Program Plus (GIPP).” The primary purpose is to provide comprehensive direct service and community engagement which supports hard to serve at-promise girls who are at greatest potential risk of human trafficking. The primary activities include a 12-week journey through the GIPP Core program which is monitored by staff using a comprehensive case management model; daily transportation to and from the program and off-site activities is provided to maximize participation; and four recognition ceremonies are held each year to acknowledge their success. The expected outcomes include the following: (1) decrease the number potential human trafficking victims within target communities by expanding prevention and early intervention programming who are at risk of sex and/or labor trafficking, (2) establish community-based support systems in marginalized communities to promote a safer environment for girls, and (3) OVC peer-to-peer training/technical assistance and Quest2Freedom human trafficking professional development sessions to strengthen anti-trafficking outcomes for at-promise girls. The geographic service area includes the highest risk rate areas in Miami’s Overtown, Liberty City, Allapattah, Brownsville, Richmond Heights, Perrine/Goulds, and Homestead communities comprising ZIP codes 33136, 33127, 33142, 33147, 33033, 33176, and 33157 with a target audience of hard-to-serve Black and Brown girls ages 13–17.
