Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $199,365)

The purpose of this grant program is to provide culturally responsive services to crime victims and survivors from communities that have been historically underserved; marginalized; adversely affected by inequality; and disproportionately impacted by crime, violence, and victimization. With this funding, MINNESOTA INDIAN WOMEN'S RESOURCE CENTER (MIWRC) will expand service provision for current and new American Indian/Native American (AI/NA) clients who are victims of crime. MIWRC will provide individualized case management, one-on-one advocacy support, education, and engagement in cultural traditions to address issues such as mental healthcare, housing, chemical dependency, and resiliency through cultural reconnection and victim advocacy in the East Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis, which has a large AI/AN population.
