Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $199,988)

The purpose of this grant program is to provide culturally responsive services to crime victims and survivors from communities that have been historically underserved; marginalized; adversely affected by inequality; and disproportionately impacted by crime, violence, and victimization. With this funding, SARAS HOUSE PLACE will increase the availability and accessibility of housing security, victim services, and healing justice resources to primarily pregnant and/or parenting African American/Black women who have been criminally victimized through domestic and sexual violence. Services will include emergency and transitional shelter (including support for relocation, utility deposits, and transportation and childcare assistance); trauma-informed case management; emergency necessity resources (such as interview clothing, grocery gift cards, and infant care supplies); and empowerment and healing justice resources (i.e., practical workshops). The project will serve the Metro-Detroit area, including Wayne, Lapeer, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, and St. Clair Counties.
