Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $198,000)

The purpose of this grant program is to provide culturally responsive services to crime victims and survivors from communities that have been historically underserved; marginalized; adversely affected by inequality; and disproportionately impacted by crime, violence, and victimization. With this funding, SOUTH ASIAN NETWORK, INC., will provide culturally and linguistically specific services to South Asian victims of violence, ensuring they receive comprehensive support and advocacy. During the project period, we will provide case management, mental health therapy, safety planning, and essential needs such as food and medication, transportation, shelter, clothing and shoes, and childcare. Services will target South Asians, immigrants, and U.S.-born individuals, including the Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistan, Sri Lankan, and Nepalese communities in Los Angeles, California. Services to be provided include culturally specific food (e.g.: halal, vegetarian); medication; transportation; transitional housing; clothing; and child care.
