Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $250,000)
The purpose of this project is to develop and provide information to members and staff of state legislatures as they review and revise state laws related to crime victims' rights and services. The project is designed to enhance state legislators knowledge of the impact of crime upon victims and their families and the role and needs of crime victims in criminal justice systems. In the first two years, the grantee identified and analyzed state laws, published reports, and developed a guidebook summarizing legislation on victims' rights and services, and convened meeting events for state lawmakers. In the third year, the grantee will update and convert the legislative guidebook into a Web-based format. The grantee will also analyze state victims' rights laws to identify provisions that are similar to those in the federal 'Justice for All Act.'
