Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $500,000)
The overall goal of this project is to train key community members to recognize and respond to family violence. In order to achieve this goal, the project will provide educational opportunities to 'front-line' responders within the community about elder abuse, domestic violence, teen relationship abuse, and child abuse through innovative educational programs and specialized training opportunities. These opportunities include training in the form of conferences for educators and the faith community, 'master classes' offered to both the educational and faith communities, and a curriculum developed for teens on relationship abuse. Overall, the project seeks to: increase reporting of elder abuse, domestic violence, child abuse and teen relationship abuse; support mandated reporters of child abuse so that they can readily perform their duties; increase understanding of victims' unique situations and challenges; increase awareness of the prevalence of abuse; and facilitate the development of healthy relationships and assertive behaviors.
