HALOS: Improving Access to Faith-Based and Community Resources for Abused and Neglected Youth

Building on its success in Charleston, South Carolina, HALOS will now, through a two year cooperative agreement award from OVC, replicate its model faith-based "Adopt-a-Caseworker" program: Improving Access to Faith-Based and Community Resources for Abused and Neglected Youth. HALOS connects faith groups, civic organizations, businesses, and caring individuals with the needs of abused and neglected children working through the Charleston County Department of Social Services (DSS). These groups meet the needs of young victims by providing assistance to case managers which enables them to overcome financial constraints of DSS and enhancing their ability to meet the needs of the children and the families who care for them. Through this two year continuation HALOS will continue to develop and improve the existing program in Charleston and will replicate and provide technical assistance for the program in five additional communities (three within and two outside of South Carolina).
