Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $69,861)
The purpose of this project is to strengthen the knowledge and professional skills of youth leaders, community-based victim service providers and allied professionals in order to improve intervention and support services to crime victims and survivors. Survivors for Violence Prevention, Inc. will work collaboratively with the Harvard Youth Violence Prevention Center to conduct workshops and community forums in Boston, Massachusetts and in Minneapolis, Minnesota within the one year project period of this grant. The workshops will establish mentoring connections between experienced victim service professionals and youthful survivors of violence who wish to assume leadership roles in their communities. The community forums will raise public awareness about victims' rights and available services and will also identify gaps in services available to victims of crime and surviving family members. At the end of this project, the grantee will submit an article to OVC documenting the effectiveness of the project on participants and identifying gaps in services and protocols relevant to victims locally and on the national level.
