Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $34,856)

The purpose of this project is to assist States in developing effective strategies for establishing State Victim Assistance Academies (SVAA) - planning for an SVAA that provides comprehensive, academically-based, fundamental education and training for victim service providers, victim advocates, criminal justice personnel, and allied professionals who routinely interact with victims of crime. The Minot State University's Rural Crime and Justice Center (along with the ND Council on Abused Women's Services), will plan the State Academy for North Dakota and Minot State University is the academic partner.

The strategic goals for Minot State University in their first (planning) year are to:

1.Identify a project coordinator
2.Determine and invite specific people that fit the steering committee member selection protocol
3.Develop the curriculum design
4.Develop a strategic plan
5.Develop a marketing plan
6.Submit all required reports
7.Develop selection protocol for potential instructors and students
8.Determine official dates of the academy.
