Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $944,802)
The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) is committed to enhancing the nations capacity to assist crime victims and provide leadership in changing attitudes, policies, and practices to promote justice and healing for all victims of crime. The OVC FY 2018 Advancing Hospital-Based Victim Services Demonstration Initiative seeks to improve linkages between the victim services field and hospitals and other medical facilities to increase support for victims of crime, improve victim outcomes, reduce chances of further victimization, and provide dedicated technical assistance resources to support these efforts.
With this award, the Children's National Medical Center will expand its hospital-based services and partnerships to support youth victims of trafficking in the District of Columbia. Several partnerships, including the Freddie Mac Child and Adolescent Protection Center, the Division of Adolescent Medicine, and local victim-serving organizations, have been formed to expand services and support to these victims ages 12-21 years old. OVC funding will expand trauma-informed services for these trafficking survivors while educating medical staff, trainees and providers about victim-centered approaches for this unique population.
