Enhanced Language and Direct Service Access for Victims of Domestic Violence

The FY 19 Enhancing Language and Other Access to Services Program seeks to enhance language access services for crime victims to break down barriers that prevent many individuals from reporting crimes and accessing the services they need after crime victimization. Funding will support the provision of direct services, the development of language access plans, and will expand the capacity of community-based organizations within linguistically specific communities to address the needs of victims of crime.
Under this award, The Center for Family Violence Prevention (CFVP) will improve the accessibility of victim-centered and trauma-informed services for domestic violence victims in Pitt County, North Carolina, over a 2-year project period. The project will develop a language access plan for CFVP, provide direct services to all victims of domestic violence, and enhance service access using assistive technology and interpretation services. CFVP’s goals are to increase the number of Deaf, hearing-impaired, blind, sight-impaired, and LEP domestic violence victims who reach out for services to break their cycle of domestic violence incidences and enhance victim access to services onsite at all CFVP’s facilities.
