Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $399,989)

This program will provide funding for shelter and transitional housing and other assistance to victims of domestic violence and their companion animals, which under this program means pets, service animals, emotional support animals, and horses. The Delaware Tribe of Indians (Family & Children Services) will work with Ray of Hope to provide companion animal boarding to victims who are escaping a domestic violence situation and will be staying in a community hotel (there are no domestic violence shelters in the FCS service area.) FCS will provide assistance to victims who are transitioning from a domestic violence situation or emergency shelter into an apartment or other rental property and who have a companion animal. This assistance will include rent, rental deposits, pet deposits, and application fees. FCS will provide assistance to victims to replace necessary pet supplies lost due to escaping a domestic violence situation. In addition, transitional housing program participants will receive assistance with pet supplies, pet food, and veterinary costs. The FCS service area consists of 10 counties: Rogers County, OK, Washington County, OK, Craig County, OK, Nowata County, OK, Montgomery County, KS, Labette County, KS, Neosho County, KS, Wilson County, KS, Chautauqua County, KS, Elk County, KS, and North Tulsa CCD, OK. Project partners include Ray of Hope Advocacy Center, Animal Rescue Foundation of Bartlesville (ARF), Washington County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (WCSPCA) and Bartlesville Animal Hospital and Boarding Kennel.
