Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $288,497)

This program will provide funding for shelter and transitional housing and other assistance to victims of domestic violence and their companion animals, which under this program means pets, service animals, emotional support animals, and horses. The Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence will implement a project to increase availability and access to pet-inclusive services, shelter, and transitional housing for victims of domestic violence and their companion animals. Hotline Victim Services Specialists will identify whether callers have companion animals they are concerned about, provide the appropriate safety planning, emotional support, and general and/or lay legal advocacy, and make referrals to pet-inclusive domestic violence shelters. Training, support services, and assistance with relocation and housing-related expenses will be provided statewide in Arizona. Capacity-building technical assistance will be targeted to domestic violence shelters in five rural and partially-rural counties in Arizona: La Paz, Maricopa, Pinal, Yavapai, and Yuma. The project partners are five community-based domestic violence shelters: Catholic Community Services—Yuma Safe House, Chicanos Por La Causa, Colorado River Regional Crisis Services, Community Alliance Against Family Abuse, and Verde Valley Sanctuary.
