Master Sergeant (MSG) Verlean Brown is the Senior Deployed Sexual Assault Response Coordinator assigned to the 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in support of Joint Base Balad (JBB). She has been responsible for providing information, counsel, and assistance to more than 100 individual service members and has performed all of her duties at an exceptional level. 

MSG Brown has single-handedly supervised and trained 200 victim advocates, and conducted more than 40 education and training classes for 2,000 soldiers, airmen, and civilians located at JBB. She is responsible for implementation of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program in a combat environment, and for establishing a mutually supportive relationship with the United States Air Force (USAF) Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARC) located on JBB. 

MSG Brown has excelled in integrating staff energy and pulling together agency resources in order to successfully develop the first joint team SAPR office, leveraging all local resources to implement an effective joint response team. MSG Brown spearheaded efforts with help from the USAF SARC and other resident tenant units to organize and execute various SAPR training events to enhance the response efforts for victims, establish awareness, and assist with the implementation of the Army’s new “I. A.M. Strong” Campaign to empower soldiers to “Intervene, Act, and Motivate” to prevent sexual assault.
