This guide presents the United Nations Declaration of Basic
Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power and
provides guidelines for policymakers -- including those in
ministries or departments of justice, interior, and social
welfare and health, and local authorities in all countries -- who
are concerned with improving the position of victims of crime and
abuse of power and providing these victims with the necessary
assistance and access to justice.
Abstract
In May 1996, the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, at its fifth session, adopted a resolution to develop a manual or manuals on the use and application of the Declaration. A brief Guide for Policymakers was developed to highlight programmes and policies that have been put into effect in various jurisdictions.
