Award Information
- Rural Areas of Yavapai County
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $496,513)
In the rural communities of Yavapai County, Arizona, girls
face unique challenges that increase their vulnerability to sex
and labor trafficking. Girls residing in rural areas of Yavapai
County encounter specific obstacles that heighten their risk of
exposure to trafficking. Limited access to essential resources
and support systems due to the geographical isolation of rural
12
communities adds to their vulnerability. The close-knit nature
of these communities, while fostering unity, can also
perpetuate silence and isolation, making it difficult to identify
and assist victims. Additionally, economic hardships and a
lack of diverse employment opportunities further increase
their susceptibility to exploitation.
Applejack's Ranch, a community-driven organization deeply
invested in the well-being of its residents aims to prevent the
trafficking of girls by providing tailored classes and support
services facilitated by Applejack's Ranch in collaboration with
local organizations and child welfare agencies. Fostering
Resiliency program aims to provide community and
prevention services for girls at increased risk and those who
have experienced trafficking. Through carefully designed
classes and interventions, Fostering Resiliency seeks to
address the complex needs of these girls and prevent future
victimization. Central to the program is the belief that family
reunification and healing are vital for long-term well-being.
Specialized classes and wrap around services are offered to
parents and caregivers of youth in the foster system, equipping
them with trauma-informed parenting skills. By creating safe
and supportive environments, Fostering Resiliency breaks
cycles of exploitation and vulnerability, promoting family
stability and resilience.
