Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $950,000)
Through this award, Kristi House will expand upon its existing Project GOLD (Girls Owning their Lives and Dreams) and develop Project Gold II. Under Project Gold II, Kristi House will extend human trafficking services to men and boys and will partner with specialized medical service providers serving human trafficking survivors to expand services for expectant and young mothers and to provide services for those with substance use disorders in need of addiction treatment. Additionally, the project will include a labor trafficking focus with training and consultation strategies to expand community capacity to identify and serve labor trafficking victims. Project activities will include administering evidence-based risk and needs screening and assessment tools; providing specialized behavioral and medical health services; adapting care management and mentoring programs to address the specialized needs of the populations identified for this project; and implementing a focused initiative on community-wide trainings on human trafficking and labor trafficking. Expected outcomes include the establishment of a comprehensive program for male human trafficking survivors for the first time in Miami-Dade; provision of evidence-based and evidence-informed medical and mental health services for all types of human trafficking survivors; provision of linkages to other needed services; and an increase in training, identification and tracking around labor trafficking. The primary intended beneficiaries are boys and young men involved in sex and/or labor trafficking in Miami-Dade County and South Florida. Girls and young women who are human trafficking survivors and soon-to-be mothers will be the beneficiaries of specialized gynecological care including pregnancy, postpartum follow-up and maternal child mental health, and sex and/or labor trafficking survivors with substance use disorders will receive specialized intervention. Through Project Gold II, Kristi House will formalize a partnership with the specialized human trafficking medical providers in Miami who make up the THRIVE Clinic, engage with an experienced labor trafficking leader in the state to focus on the planned labor trafficking initiative, and work with an experienced university researcher who has published extensively on abuse and human trafficking to conduct data collection and evaluation for the project.
