The following resources provide information about preparing for and responding to terrorism and mass violence. 

American Red Cross
In addition to domestic disaster relief, the American Red Cross offers compassionate services in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs.

Center for Mental Health Services
The Center works in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in overseeing national efforts to provide emergency mental health services to survivors of Presidentially declared disasters.

Disaster Distress Helpline
The Disaster Distress Helpline is dedicated to providing year-round disaster crisis counseling. This toll free, multilingual, crisis support service is available 24/7 via telephone 800-985-5990 (for Spanish, press 2) and SMS (text 'TalkWithUs', or for Spanish, text 'Hablanos', to 66746) to residents in the U.S. and its territories who are experiencing emotional distress related to natural or man-made disasters.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
The FBI is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Justice. Its mission is to protect the United States from terrorist and foreign intelligence activities; investigate violations of federal criminal law; and provide assistance to federal, state, local, and international agencies.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
FEMA works in conjunction with different agencies to provide emergency and disaster relief. FEMA's website offers disaster news and emergency management information.

International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims
This organization promotes and supports the rehabilitation of torture victims and works for the prevention of torture.

National Mass Violence Victimization Resource Center
This OVC-funded initiative provides evidence-based information, training, and other resources for communities so they can effectively prepare for and respond to mass violence incidents.

National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
The National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster coordinates planning efforts by volunteer organizations responding to disaster. It provides training, leadership development, published resources, case studies, and performance critiques to participating groups.

September 11th Victim Compensation Fund
The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund has been reinstated and will provide compensation for any individual (or a personal representative of a deceased individual) who suffered physical harm or was killed as a result of the terrorist-related aircraft crashes of September 11, 2001, or the debris removal efforts that took place in the immediate aftermath of those crashes.

U.S. Department of State
The State Department is committed to assisting American citizens who become victims of crime while abroad and can help victims in two ways.

• Overseas: consular officers, agents, and staff work with crime victims and help them with the local police and medical systems.
• In the United States: the Office of Overseas Citizens Services will stay in touch with family members in the United States, and help provide U.S.-based resources for the victim when possible.

VictimConnect Resource Center - Confidential referrals for crime victims
VictimConnect serves victims of any crime in the United States. This OVC-funded resource offers trained specialists to help locate referrals for mental health counseling, financial compensation, legal services, civil justice options, support groups, crime reporting, identity theft recovery and more.

World Trade Center Health Program
This program monitors, screens, treats and supports responders who responded to the disaster site at the World Trade Center in New York City and who may have been affected physically or mentally by their service. The site is designed to provide information related to all aspects of the World Trade Center Health Program, to highlight new developments in the program as they occur, and to help individuals find information of particular interest for them.
